About
Our Story
It all started with my five year old Riley (RG – initials not nickname) and a trip to PetSmart. We would always stop by the reptile section to see what new animals they had, but he always came back to the bearded dragons. So he got one for Christmas one year, along with a 20 gallon tank to keep him in. Well, as all beardie owners know, Ziggy quickly outgrew his 20 gallon enclosure. After looking at the cost for larger enclosures, I decided I would attempt to build one myself.
I bought the material and built him a 4’x2’x2’ and it worked out great. I had enough material to start another one, so I finished that one and put it on Craigslist. It didn’t sell right away, but I continued to get requests for other sizes, and RG Reptile Enclosures was born. I eventually sold the other one and have since grown my company into the premier wood enclosure in the Midwest.
About Matt
I grew up in a small town about 30 miles outside of Cincinnati, OH with my mom, dad, brother, and sister. My immediate and extended families are all very close, attending church and every holiday together throughout my childhood. I attended the same school from kindergarten to graduation, and had a lot of the same friends all the way through. After graduation, I attended college and received a two year degree, and left thinking I could just build off that and go back later.
The job market was not exactly as promising as I had expected, so I went to work with my uncle’s company doing remodeling and custom woodworking. This is where I learned all of the skills I use today building my enclosures. Currently, I live with my wife Brandi, my son Riley, my dog Buddy, and our 19 reptiles in the same small town that I grew up in.
